Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Imagine Getting A Discount --- Just For Being Nice
Life deals you some amazing moments, doesn't it? My recent road trip to Norman, Oklahoma, proved just that.
Now, sometimes, I'd go to a restaurant or a car service outlet, or a department store, or what have you, and there is either an unexpected surprise or there are unmet expectations. The result is sometimes a free oil change or a certain percent off of your purchase.
Well, this trip marked the first time in more than ten years that I'd been to an Oklahoma City-area Charleston's Restaurant location. From my past experiences, it was a good place. And my Norman visit was going to be good, too, but wait until you find out what happens!
Once I've arrived there, it seemed every member of their wait staff greeted me and wanted to make sure I was acknowledged, even though there were a lot of other people there. The food selections I partook of there were mostly delicious (wood-fired pork chops, some of the best ever!). Also had me some fine, red wine. I kid you not, several members of the wait stuff were overly friendly, whether were waiting on me or not. No joke. And even one of the managers got involved. All throughout, this writer was having a wonderful time and just engaging with the staff in a positive way. Certainly, this was the stuff great visits were made of, but I thought nothing about what was to come by the end of the visit.
Here came the check....
The meal, overall, was to be about 33 dollars (not bad, considering some of the things I had), but that same manager from earlier came to me with the check and said that I made his day and was the nicest customer he'd seen in some time, and he decided to present me with.....
Buh-duh-dut, buh-duh-dut, buh-duh-dut....
....a forty-percent discount! He said it was just for being nice! Yep, I heard it. Straight from the horse's mouth. Forty percent. A thirty-three-dollar meal was now going to cost me eighteen dollars.
Talk about being speechless. I didn't think I did that much to bring forth a sizable discount like that. Being nice. But that's what happened.
Looks like that place will certainly get another visit from me next time I'm up in Norman. By the way, it stands to reason that I need to go visit a Charleston's near me in Fort Worth, and I'd never been to that one. I'm beyond convinced that a pair of bone-in pork chops would be calling my name real soon.

You could say, in some ways, that that was historic! I saw more of the other wait staff members than I did my own waitress.
