Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Llano Estacado Revisited On Case's Fall Vacation

Posted 08-16-2021 at 05:38 PM by case44

I've got a few things lined up for the next few months, and my new ride (nicknamed The Shark) will be accompanying your trusty traveler on these sojourns. Coming up next week will be Houston for a return visit. In October, Case goes to Lubbock, also for a return visit but with one new thing to see.

And in between?? Well, who knows? I'll just get in The Shark and go where it takes me.

So, basically, just continuing to take advantage of five weeks of vacation where I can get the time off, plus a little extra something on some of my regular days off. In any event, I look forward to my travels. Houston will find me taking advantage of Jim Goode's restaurant empire (I always go to his BBQ embassy, but would like to also try his seafood and Mexican food cantinas), but I have not determined whether I can make it in to a Sugar Land Skeeter game. Both the Astros and Skeeters are making it more difficult to acquire tickets the old-fashioned way, but I might have more success at a minor-league game, which this writer needs to go see.

The trip I'm planning for Lubbock will include a view of the completed Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences. They're getting quite a few hot acts already coming their way in the weeks and months ahead. Check out these names: Boz Scaggs, Amy Grant, Emmet Cohen, Joan Jett, Dwight Yoakam, Chad Prather, and more. And that's not to mention their upcoming Broadway series or a visit from Food Network's Alton Brown. So far, the demand there is incredible.

And to top it off, Ol' Case will make his return to the fabulous Overton Hotel, where, this time, I hope to get a sunset window. Last time, it was for the sunrises, so I need the other extreme for this excursion.

I'll see (more) miles and miles of Texas than Asleep At The Wheel could shake a gear shift at.

Have a good trip to H-Town.

About Buddy Holly Hall 8 hrs from there, I’ve only seen the outside while it was still U/C, but according to someone involved in the project, the finishes took “forever” to complete. You can see the spiral staircase from the outside, but it probably pales in comparison to actually being in there.

View earlier this month from KLBK’s Overton west rooftop skycam (not at sunset, obviously):
