Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Something New In Northwest Arkansas: A Completed I-49

Posted 11-08-2021 at 07:59 PM by case44

Sometime next year, your writer is going to be headed to Fayetteville, Arkansas, and the surrounding areas for a road trip. It will be well worth the wait. I'll be making a list of places to visit and eateries to munch on things. But there is one significant road that this highway fanatic will be interested in exploring.

Interstate 49 is now completed from I-40 up to Kansas City, Missouri. That includes, of course, Fayetteville and Bentonville and a growing cluster of towns in that strong corridor. A segment which connects Pineville, Missouri, with Bella Vista, Arkansas, had just been completed, effectively, and that connects all the missing dots. A few YouTube users have put their wheels in gear by producing some new videos with the ride of that specific portion of I-49. It really does look great, and this writer can't wait to drive it himself. What we await now is the construction of I-49 from I-40 down to Barling, where an existing segment containing a temporary designation lies on the far east side of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Imagine when that entire stretch gets connected. Being that it can meet another interstate, such will, thus, be designated on the new highway. This will also prompt the badly-needed changing of mile markers and corresponding exit numbers left over from the old days of Interstate 540 to a structure tied to the Louisiana state line. One day, we can see I-49 stretching southward from Fort Smith down to Texarkana, and that's the eventual plan with workers and planners, but we'll concern ourselves with that later.

Ol' Case just looks real forward to an exciting new place to vacation, and those hills that I saw on Google Street View are a thrill to take in. More will be written about Fayetteville as time goes on. The time for traveling there will be here before anyone knows it.

There's a tunnel on 49 between Ft. Smith and Fayetteville. More great scenery east of 49. Mulberry River, Beaver Lake, Buffalo River. Nice people there.

Do you think an extension to Texarkana would take traffic off
of us69 between Dallas and I-44?

First of all, Mo, hi. To answer the question, yes, I believe that, once they finally get the entire route finished, there would be relief of some sort with the traffic on those routes.

And that tunnel is the Bobby Hopper Tunnel. I plan to check that out on a planned future visit when I take my Shark up to Northwest Arkansas, hopefully next year sometime.
