Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Astros' Maldonado Gets Two Immaculate Receptions As History Is Made

History was made in Arlington, Texas, and things were going right................for the other Texas team.

Forget my hometown Rangers. My team is the Houston Astros, and it was they who made history this past Wednesday by making their great season even better. For the first time in the history of Major League Baseball, a team had seen two immaculate innings pitched in the same game. An immaculate inning occurs when a pitcher throws nine pitches for strikes and sees three batters strike out. No balls outside the strike zone.

With that said, the Houston Astros were the first team to have two pitched in the same game when they played the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on Wednesday, June 15. Luis Garcia in the second inning and Phil Maton in the seventh inning, with Martin Maldonado catching behind the plate both times. And how about Maldonado making his own history as the catcher for both immaculate innings? Even more incredible than that was the fact that, in both of those innings, the same three batters struck out in such fashion!!! That's right, sports fans. It happened to Nathaniel Lowe, Ezequiel Duran, and Brad Miller. It's also the first time that two immaculate innings by anyone were thrown on the same day!

In addition, the Astros are tied with two other franchises with the most immaculate innings thrown ever. Pretty good company, too. The Astros are tied with the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers with nine (9) such feats. History, indeed, was made.

Now, if the Astros do get Dusty Baker his managerial World Series ring....

Speaking of Dusty, he turned 73 on the day of that game. I'd say that was a nice birthday present.

Lot of history going on in H-Town this year. After what you guys did to the two New York teams, you'll be some of kind of dangerous in the playoffs.
