how to get rid of a spider (part II)

Yesterday (and the day before, and the day before that) I was cleaning up my son’s room, really getting in there and helping him out before school starts. For the past 6 months he’s done a fair job when I’ve asked him to, but I could tell it was needing some mom help, to start the school year off right.

His closet was the scariest part. I shook off a few things lying at the bottom (after I finally got to the bottom) tossed stuff into the garbage or the laundry or found better spots for things... Then I went into my room to change out of my favorite pair of athletic pants, into a pair of jeans. My husband was on his way home (lunch break) and we were headed over to the court house to register to vote.

All of a sudden I see this little black bundle jump off my sweat pants (which were hanging in mid-air at this point) (thank goodness I did see it!) and run under and into the jeans I had lying on my bed (the jeans I was about to put on). I hope it had been on the outside of my pants all that time! (I know it came from that closet…) My heart can hardly handle such moments. I didn’t know what to do. I ended up with a yard stick and a flash light, trying to shake him out or poke him out or shine him out from a distance. But I wasn't having any success. In fact I started to wonder if I'd imagined it 'cause I couldn't see him through the pant legs or anything...

In the end my son (thank goodness for son’s growing up, because he used to be just as afraid as me) my son told me to let him try, and he stood on the computer chair alongside the bed and shook out those jeans, the brave kid. Out tumbled the nasty spider, who broke into a run as soon as he hit the bedspread.

I smashed him good with that yardstick and that was the end of him.

So, sometimes you just have to improvise…

Actually, if you have any better ideas on how to get rid of spiders, I'm open to hear them...

do you have a permit for that yardstick maam?

normally I spray around the house several times a year for spiders, and then if we see any in the house, set off a bug bomb when we are going somewhere.
As far as who gets to remove the spiders froms the house when we find one, that would be me,,everyone else in my house is too scared of them-lol

I use granules in my yard each year and that helps cut down on some of them.. but the scary creatures still find their way into our place too...

I am with ya! Spiders scare me too. Today I got surprised in the kitchen with a wasp! Scared me to death...

Now that we are moving to Buffalo, and I am taking boxes of stuff out of the closet that I kept packed, I am finding spiders and it is no fun job at all..
