One bright and sunny afternoon in which my parents werent home, as was generally the case between8am and 4pm. I stayed with my grandparents who lived right beside us. the only thing that separated our house from theirs was about an acre or so of corn, depending on the time of year and what my grandpa planted.
Well I didnt have much going on that day and after watching the three stooges for about an hour, I got the bright idea i wanted to build a rocket.
I was about 9 or 10, with, if yove read my blogs, an over active imagination. So I hunted around the house for something that looked like a rocket. But all i could find was some old wrapping paper carboard, the kind that is real long.
so i got some of my dads duct tape and then some more cardboard and made the little wings..
now was the tricky part..fuel
Well i had this worked out in my mind that gas would be the best thing..not the best idea in the world but nonetheless..
i made a small bottle of avon fit down in the bottom of the tube after i dumped all my moms perfume out of it. I filled it with gas and had it where it would light from the bottom.
I used the top of a milk jup for the top of the rocket and tied a couple Gi joe men to it for extra effects.

Well i couldnt launch this thing without an audience so I picked up the phone to call JT.
the only problem was that his grandma was on the line, back then we had a 4-way party line and you could hear someone elses conversation..So i did what any polite young guy would do..I stepped back and slammed the receiver down a few hundred times till the line was clear..and Jt was on his way.
luckily he brought some matches, and we sat it behind the horse shed that way nobody could see us.
Well he counted down from 10 to blast off..and I lit the bottle..
all i rem is a WOOOOF and the rocket fell over and was on fire..not on the rocket but the tree, the horse shed and anything within 5 feet. So me and Jt took turns running back and forth to the water hydrant filling a gallon bucket full of water till we got it out.

Now the fun part..getting the burn marks off the barn and the trees before my dad saw it. Brown paint was all i could find, so we went to painting, i figured id get in less trouble for painting stuff than burning stuff. And no one to this day has ever asked me about the brown paint on the red horse shed I did learn a lesson..dont play with gas..you will have to go to school with no eyebrows!!
