Budget

Posted 06-03-2012 at 04:03 PM by txtqueen

Me: 1,326.00/mo
Him: 1,726.40/mo
Both: 3,052.40/mo

That's my for sure monthly and his guesstimated monthly after tax.

Montly income 3,052.40
Rent/utilities/cable/internet - $730.00
2,322.40
My car insurance 80.00
2,242.40
My cell phone 80.00
2,162.40
Gas/mo 200.00
1,962.40
Groceries/mo 200.00
1,762.40
Birth control 10.00
1,752.40
Car payment 300.00
1,452.40
50% of "extra" $ n2 savings 726.20
This savings is for emergency car maintenance, medical expenses, emergency travel expenses incase a relative passes etc, its "emercency savings".

This is "fun" extra money 726.20
Some will be spent some will be saved up for "big extras".

With the $300 NORMAL car payment, I bought a Kia, not a Benz no reason for a $500 a month car payment. Anyways I will be finished paying that off in 4.7 years. Might I also mention there was no loan taken out on this vehicle, my grandmother IS NOT making payments, it was paid off before I drove it off the lot. It was paid by check out of some stocks and bonds.

But as you see this is a very good budget, after everything is paid off HALF, exactly half of our left over money is going towards emergency savings for things like car repairs etc, we still have some play money which we can save for different things, so two savings accounts, we're even budgeting and saving the "play money".

We don't plan on getting him a car for another few months.
I hear tomorrow if I got that new job or not and he and I will work the same hours almost, him 8-5 and me 9-6 but it will make sharing a car so much better.
But I will make A LOT more and maybe then could up the car payment a little more but in the mean time I am keeping it at $300 a month.

This way my grandmother gets paid back, I am not paying out my ass more than I would have if I had taken out a loan and we can still get the things we want which aren't all that expensive.

I like my budget and that's all that matters.

726$ a month for FUN? That isn't a good budget, that is a ****ty one.

First off, you and TG are NOT married so just because you live together, quit looking at your bills as a shared responsibility. The ONLY two that should be shared are the rent and the car- he NEEDS to start helping you pay for that car

It doesn't matter if your GRANDMOTHER paid for the car in full the day it came off the lot. It wasn't paid for in full by YOU! It isn't YOUR car, not until you pay back every last penny. I hope she is charging you interest.

If you can stash away 726$ a month for "fun" money, you need to put more of that to your grandmother. NOONE puts away 24% of their monthly income to "fun" if they still have outstanding debt! *shakes head* How can you not see where you are making the same mistakes, over and over again. You will NEVER get ahead at this pace

Is that grocery budget realistic? That's $25 per week per person for all food and toiletries. It seems really low. I'd suggest doubling it. I agree with NE about the excessive "fun money fund". I'd cut that back, even if it was at $400 per month you would still have plenty and you could pay off your car sooner. Eliminating debt ultimately will save you more money.

    Good luck with everything.

I wouldn't count on having so much "fun money" until you have a built up a decent savings. And I don't mean saving for camping equipment. I mean savings you never touch unless you lose our job, or have a major medical expense, or some other NECESSARY but unexpected expense.

According to your budget, your expenses are more or less $1600/month. You should have a minimum of 6 months of expenses in savings, so that's $9600 you should have in the bank at all times, only to be touched in an emergency. And that's for you, and only you, not shared with TG.

The food budget could be very realistic. We spend less than that on food. However, I do get a discount where I work. We are eating quite healthy now, too.

I wouldn't count that as fun money, though. We would pay off the car completely and safe the rest. You know, for a second car, big purchases, and a future house. Not to mention, things to fill up that future house. But that's just us.

Eh i'm going to say that sharing money at this point is not the wisest choice. If things go south and such it's fairly common for one party to drain the account and dance off. Best to split your extras, and pay your bills separate. Then i would put money away for a solid 2 years, as toys can wait for a bit, and it's better to have a solid 15-20 k in the bank . I would also say you should sell the car for a more practical used one as well and free up that 300.

    Oh and I can't sell.
I now have $3,000 in hail damage I can't fix, since I only have liability right now.

That HUGE storm that hit in like june or so, yeah I was at work when it happened, no way to avoid my car getting screwed in the parking lot.

The trunk, the hood, the roof, all has pretty severe damage.

I am waiting till I can up my car insurance, wait for another hail storm, and then claim.

Right now there should be no "we" when it comes to money. You have shared expenses (rent, food, renters insurance, groceries, cable tv, utilities) which you should split. After that you have your expenses and he has his.

Your car is your expense. If he uses your gas, car, insurance he should pay you for their use. If you choose to go out together you should split it, or decide who will pay in advance. His expenses are his. He doesn't have to share with you as long as he pays his half of your shared expenses.

Separate bank accounts should be maintained. Until you are married maintain separate accounts (maybe you can make an exception for engagement gifts). When there are joint account both parties are entitled to spend any and all of the money in the account. You really don't want to work hard to build up a nest egg, have a fight and find out that the money is gone. Maintain your own accounts until you are married.

When you are Mr. and Mrs. TG then there is a we. Until then there is no we.
