Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Case's Vacation Journal: Celebrity Passings Through The Years

I'm currently at a business center inside a Waco, Texas hotel, and I'm doing wonderfully on yet another road trip. Later on, I'll have some sights to see, but first, these reflections.

Honestly, I don't know why I keep up with the following, but it is on my mind as I listen to the news. Another celebrity from the entertainment world just passed away yesterday. We lost singer Lesley Gore on Monday at age 68 after she had a long battle with cancer. And not too long before that, we'd lost Gary Owens (long-time radio and TV personality), as well. What I'm reflecting on are famous celebrities who we've lost while I was taking vacation. The list is a very impressive one, and, sadly, I might be leaving a few folks out.

These names are who I've remembered from recent years, passing away while I was taking vacation:

Gary Owens
Lesley Gore
Casey Kasem
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
Johnny Cash
Don Knotts
Farrah Fawcett
Michael Jackson
Ed McMahon

Those were just off the top of my head and some more may come back to mind. I'm not wishing to be morbid here, folks. Even while traveling, I should pause to remember all these people, and others. We all should, no matter where we are.

In the meantime, I'll be back with you with more vacation updates from my corner of the world.

Rest in peace, Lesley and Gary. You've both made solid contributions to the entertainment world and will both be remembered in many ways.

Add Joe Morgan to that list. Former major league second baseman and color analyst. And former Astro.

    He was 77.

    Here's another:

Rush Limbaugh. He was a radio legend (and pioneer in many regards). Lots and lots of listeners each weekday.

70 years old. Stage 4 cancer.

    Rest in peace, sir.

Now, we've lost one from the baseball world: Bruce Sutter. Remember him? Relief great who pitched in some very important games during my growing-up years. He was 69.

My goodness, there's now another one.

    Burt Bacharach.

For the last few years, that was one that I had to watch because he was up there in age. Sooner or later, it was going to come, although I was rooting for him to go for 100. His health hadn't been particularly bad lately.

Natural causes. Burt, thanks a million times over for this brilliant music you've put together.
