Should I just get a straw and suck on it every hour ? Is there any inhaler that I can suck on, that will clean my lungs while simulating the density of a sig?

thank you.
Genuinely curious if I'm the only person on this planet who can smoke a cigarette, or a dozen, every couple months and then that's all she wrote.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

It's very enjoyable, smoking. I personally believe those who haven't tried it, and practised enough to enjoy the buzz, can't quite understand. The overriding social unacceptability among my social circle is overwhelming, the anti- crowd has won it over past c. twenty years here in the U.S. Most, but not all, smokers these days are *perceived as* a bit gauche. I've watched the tide turn, socially, and generally approve because enjoyable as it is, it's also long-term lethal and very expensive for everyone else in terms of health care costs.

Obviously.

Figure I'll buy my next pack around Thanksgiving, and will have it smoked up in about a week. Strange way of doing that, I have...

I don't drink, letting that go one Sunday morning in 1994. I had a self-diagnosed problem, that hadn't gotten me into serious trouble at the time but could and would have, given sufficient close-brushes w/Mr. Mayhem. That, I don't think I should ever even try controlling. Nor is it much missed, though being a teetotaller is actually a bit socially challenging. Women like it, though, unless they themselves are heavy drinkers in which case it's viewed as weak. For the most part, few women like a sloppy drunk boyfriend or husband.

Can't drink in moderation, can smoke in moderation, though were I truly all-that I'd never smoke again...which brings us to the "enjoyable" and "sociable" part, since smokers tend to band together and it's one way to bond with guys and gals.

Wish I had solid counsel how others might quit. It's an interesting and serious topic, going to both physical and psychological dependency. If it were a significant pack or two per day problem, I'd seriously track down medical and psychological professionals to see what *they* recommend as long-term effective treatment. My old man threw down his ash trays in his 30s and cold-turkeyed it, back in the early 1960s. I could never quite do that, to this day. A few can, I strongly suspect most cannot without some form of external assistance.

...though that's one of the only ways out of alcohol abuse, too. Stopping the behavior by, uh, stopping the behavior?

My $.02.

You have to quit the habits. One after dinner, one after a drink etc. They are the habits that are hard to quit. A for the addiction, it subsides in about a week and it is gone in less than a month. That is the easy part. You have to change your mindset. This is from a forty year smoker. Cutting down is not the answer. You will never quit by cutting down.

It's really hard to quite smoking I think. It's 99% a will thing. One idea could be to chew nicotine gums for a while in the beginning just to make it a bit more easy come down...
