Living rough to save money

Posted 04-03-2021 at 03:16 PM by rodentraiser

Originally, I was planning to live in a trailer on some property and eventually save enough money to get electric, water, septic, and a small house on it because I did not want a 30 mortgage (also didn't think I could get one).

I got some water spigots on the property and a driveway in before I moved into the trailer. My next goal was to have enough to get electricity by last December. A few things have changed though.

My contractor bought all the other lots around me and wanted to swap one of his lots with mine. The new lot is much flatter than mine and gets sun all day, which mine doesn't. And I really, really want a garden.

Since I've already paid for a driveway and water, that is free on the new property. Meantime, the contractor has just finished putting in both electric and a septic system on the new property, will put up a 40x24 metal roof to cover the trailer, and will carry the cost with no interest with me paying him back over 6 years.

We'll be signing the contract in the next couple of weeks and I'm set to move over to the new lot next week. I'll be hooked up to septic and water and the electric will be hooked up in May. AND! After paying fees and the first year's payment, I'll still have enough to look for a larger trailer. So things are definitely falling into place.

With luck, I'll be back on my computer and posting here by the end of summer at the latest.

It's fascinating to read about your journey, rodent. Honestly, I am really in awe of your adventurous spirit and how beautifully you've done! Yes, please keep coming back as you can and let us know how things are going.

PS The garden looking like a body might be buried there made me laugh

Thank you all for the kind comments. I do want to point out, tho, that I am not that brave or daring. What I am doing is being done from need simply so I can have a home that I won't be priced out of. There's thousands of people who would do what I'm doing for the same reason. I was just lucky because I had the money and the opportunity.
