Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Extra Innings In Seattle: Astros And M's In The Longest Scoreless Marathon

I think that, by the time I wake up out of bed tomorrow morning, the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners will still be playing Game 3.

Saturday night, it sure seemed that way. Good gravy, y'all, it still does! As I am writing this post, Game 3 of the American League Divisional Series at Seattle's T-Mobile Park between the Astros and Mariners is going into the bottom of the 16th inning. That's right, sports fans, 16th! No score. Zero. As of now, this game represents the longest a divisional playoff game was scoreless in major league history. Right now, your writer, along with other Astros fans, are waiting for the end result of this contest. If Houston wins, then they've won the ALDS and will advance to the league championship. If Seattle wins, then we'll have Game 4 in Seattle tomorrow (at this writing).

As for the rest of you out there, still some great baseball to be played. Enjoy the games, everyone!

The game ended up going 18 innings. Jeremy Pena finally got the Astros a run. It came on a home run to left-center. Luis Garcia closed out the Mariners in the bottom of the 18th.

    Astros win. The legend continues.

The Los Angeles Dodgers just got upset by the San Diego Padres!

So much for baseball's best record and doing all the right things and having so many things go right. At least, the Astros won't have to put up with having to travel to Los Angeles and deal with endless heckling from sour grapes Dodgers fans who won't let go of the past. San Diego has now earned the right to play in the NLCS.

And speaking of which, the Atlanta Braves will not repeat as World Champions. Another team will play SD in the NLCS. Houston has its best chance to get Dusty Baker his long-awaited ring as a manager.

I saw that game, Case. That Jeremy Pena is going to become a legend real quick. He looked like a seasoned vet all throughout the postseason. Bet you folks are forgetting Carlos Correa now.
