Hurricane Katrina severely damaged L.B. Landry School. To meet the community's needs following this catastrophic event, FEMA sought innovative processes for the development of Alternate and Improved Projects. The Recovery School District elected to pursue the Alternate Project funding approach, taking full advantage of the Omnibus legislation in which FEMA funds Alternate Projects for public schools. This Alternate Project utilized FEMA funding from 39 damaged educational facilities toward the construction of LB Landry High School. Photo by FEMA/Manuel Broussard.
