Over 130 fifth grade students from Bridgeport's public schools were recognized on April 9 for completing the Student Tools for Emergency Planning (STEP) program. The STEP program was developed by FEMA, and is implemented by the State of Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, the American Red Cross and RYASAP (Regional Youth Adult Social Action Partnership). STEP's goal is to prepare families for multiple hazards by educating and energizing students to act as leaders in their homes by implementing key preparedness strategies with their families. At the ceremony, each student received a preparedness backpack kit along with a certificate of completion.
