I got pertussis from an unvaccinated child in my daughter's daycare in 2006 (I was volunteering a few days a week) I was vaccinated as a child but wasn't informed I need a booster as an adult. Luckily my daughter was vaccinated and didn't get sick.

I would wish that illness on my worst enemy. I was sick for 6 weeks. Bedridden for something like 3 weeks. They have to sedate me because I was coughing so hard they were worried I was going to crack a rib, I did bruise them so badly I would cry every time I coughed. I lost a ton of weight because I threw up anything I ate from coughing so hard.

I was 30. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy and I can't imagine people who subject a small child to such a horrible illness.
