Can someone please explain to me how the reputation thing works. I have a rep of 13. I have no idea how. Can you get a bad rep?

Yes, you can get negative rep points. You'll find plenty of answers your questions in About the Forum. Here's a start, How do you "thank" people who give you reputation points?: https://www.city-data.com/forum/about...eople-who.html.

Hey BentAxle
If you click on the little scale looking thing in the upper right corner of a post, it will rediredt you to a new screen where you can give rep points for posts that are helpful to you...
click on the my settings button near the top to see what you have been given the points for...

And THEN, after you've gotten 101 Rep points, you can make a clever phrase or name under your handle. . .

Some folks care a great deal about this, others do not. Personally, I think it's cool.

*uh oh, did I just date myself by using this word *

In addition to the scale, you can click "[+] Rate this post positively" to give a Quick-reputation point to a post you like or find helpful.

Don't forget you can click on "my setting" on the top left of the page and see who has repped you if they left a message. The my settings record the reps that people gave you by clicking on the scales

I will leave you a note with some of my "gold stars" so you can see what I am talking about
