It's been a couple of months since I've looked through the Photography forum so I was going through that forum last night and today looking at all the lovely new pictures posted in recent weeks. I like to give reps and also to make approval comments in comments box through the "scales" icon when I see particularly nice photos so I was doing that with several of them.

I don't know how many people I gave reps to but at one point a short while ago I got a window popped up that said I had given out too many reputation points in the past 24 hours and to wait a while before I rep anyone else again. I was surprised to see that. I know you have to spread reps around before giving them to the same person again and that is quite understandable so as to not show or curry favouritism but I didn't know there was a limit on how many people we could give reps to within a specified time period.

So I'm wondering what's the reason for that limitation, is it just for the photography forum or for all forums, and how many people are we allowed to rep within 24 hours, and how long do I have to wait now before I can give reps to anyone else again?

Thanks muchly for any explanations as to the whys and wherefores about that.

Merry Christmas !!

.

If they haven't changed the rules lately - in a 24 hour period you can give out a maximum of 35 reps to others.

About rep points--I notice that some folks have like 3X as many rep points as posts. How does that happen? I'm new here so I really don't know how it works at all. Thanks.

It's because they actually received three times as many rep points as someone else. But rather than be glib, it seems that folks that hang out in certain forums get more than others. Some forums such as the "Other Topics" is more friendly in nature with often a regular group visiting that forum each day. That is not to say that they are cliquey though. Far from it. That crew is very welcoming if you would like to hang out.

When new members rep posts, they're giving one point per rep. The longer someone is a member here, and the more posts s/he has made, the more rep points s/he gives automatically increases. The maximum number of points per rep is 5.

So, for example, if a new member makes one post and five senior members each rep it, the member will then have 1 post and 35 rep points (25 from the senior members + the 10 points everyone starts with).
