Can we please have a Current Events forum
Current events tend to get placed in the muck and dredge of Politics and Other Controversies forum where every topic gets turned into a Left vs Right **** fest.

Allow a recommendation that any "Current Events" forum be policed as strongly as "Great Debates" to keep it from becoming a spill over for "Politics and Other Controversies" which is almost certain to happen. This notice "Special high standards apply in this forum - ALL posters MUST read this" should also be plain to see at the start of a "Current Events" forum
Good idea with in danger of perversion and high jacking by members who can't stay on topic.

I think a Current Event forum would be great. I think it eliminate the use of multiple threads on one topic.

It will never work because Current Events are usually hot button, controversial, topics that are very often specific. Hurricane Sandy Hook is an example. So is the Sandy Hook Elementary School. Both are on the East Coast. The former has no discussion whilst the later dissolved into a free-for-all and fear mongering over gun ownership and the U.S Constitution that continues today. I suppose the Wise Nine (SCOTUS) will make the final determination.

It would have to be heavily monitored because people around here can get very vile.

The Forum has already been added. Nothing really chaotic there.
