Can a new member send a DM, yet have no posts?

Can a member with a user name, after time passes (in order to be able to send DM's since there may be a limit of 1 per 24 hours, etc) do so (send a DM) without having made any posts or comments on any threads?

The answer to that question may fall into the category of "things that the folks who run the board would rather NOT discuss where spammers can read it."

Given that my DM inbox here has remained almost spam-free in ~5 years, I can see the value of that approach.

If you received a DM like that, please forward it to one of the Senior Moderators (either Marka or Yac) to review.

I get DMs all the time from new members who never post. Only once did I get spam. However, they can't send more than one DM a day, so if there is a protracted conversation I tell them to post on the forum.
