Is there any way that we can shut off the smilies?

Some posters think they need to use one every 5th word or so it seems.
I just read a 3 sentence post with 8 smilies in it.
C'mon people, enough already.

It is probably just me so this is more of a rant.

There is an option in the "Miscellaneous Options" in the "Additional Options " section underneath of the box that you type your reply in that is:
"Disable smilies in text"

That, I assume, will disable smilies in your text. I'm not sure if it disables smilies in every bodies text, but I guess you can give it a try.

I LOVE the smilies and I wish we had more. I post in a bunch of different forums on other sites and some of them have the best emoticons. I wish I knew how to do a cut and paste or something to bring them over here because there are some that really fit what I am trying to say most of the time.

You can upload them to a free site called Image shack

Copying the url of the smilies at another place and posting it here (called hot linking) might be breaking internet rules like bandwidth theft. I've seen images display a nasty message like this a-hole stole this picture from such & such place once it's hot linked elsewhere.

You go to image shack, add the url of the smilie or upload from your own computer.

You can also add a smilie add in to firefox if you have it. Firefox smilie add on (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/375 - broken link)
