I've been interested in it because I like Brazil, and I like the Portuguese language. Mozambique was interesting because of that.
Plus, Bob Dylan mentioned it in a song, that I use to play when I was a kid. So, that sticks in my mind.
However, whenever I think about visiting, I look at various stats. It seems like crime is a problem, and the social problems of AIDS seems to have hit that country very hard. It's right up there with South Africa and a few of it's neighbors as having some of the highest percentage of AIDS in the world. I think it's something like 30% of all young adults. That's a lot.
It just seems like it would have a lot of social problems because of that, let alone a fear of having some problem there, and needing to use hospital facilities. (I'm sure they sterilize things, but thinking that 30% of adults in that hospital have AIDs is a bit nerve-wracking).
Someone please correct me if my numbers are off about Mozambique having a huge AIDs crisis.
I was interrogated at gunpoint for a couple of hours when I arrived there on a fishing boat from Malawi, but that was in the revolutionary days (1976) and probably not applicable now. I think I startled them when I arrived, they had never seen a traveler before. South Africans have always been very fond of Mozambique, and love going there.

What? Crime problem? IMO this little country is one of the most peaceful nations in the SADC region, yeah that's a bit of exaggeration from your part pal.

30% is just too much Tiger, Mozambique has a pop of about 20 million people, and approximately 1.6 million Mozambicans are living with HIV or AIDS, that'd be like 10% or less...

I'd be interested in Mozambique for sure. Portuguese-speaking, seems exotic and interesting.
I think that both Madagascar and Mozambique have a lot of touristic potential.
Mozambique has some very beautiful beaches with sand dunes, similar to those we have here in Northeastern Brazil.
Maybe the two countries should invest in joint tourism projects, since a dual trip to both countries at the same time seens very logical.
