China's interests in the once-forgotten continent are obvious. China needs to secure oil for its fast-growing economy and Africa, with its established and new oil fields, and its relative openness to foreign investment is an obvious place to do business.

The same goes for other resources. Chinese manufacturers rely hugely on imported raw materials. So Zambia's abundant supplies of copper are alluring, as are Congo's cobalt and other precious metals. And land tempts too. Only in Africa (think of the fertile highlands of Angola long cut off by war, or the once booming farms in Zimbabwe) can you find under-used tracts of rich and well-watered farmland, where productivity would soar with better investment.

If you look at what England, France, Belgium, Germany and Portugal did to Africa (and later on, American and Swiss corporations), it would be pretty hard to fault China, no matter now pessimistically you look at their designs.

True, but then again, by now Africans should have learned their lesson and be able to defend themselves against the new imperialists from China, who by the way are at least as racist as whites were when they raided the continent.
Some Africans are indeed warning, but corruption and lobbying are rampant. And Africans simply need the money as they have mostly failed to overcome their problems since independence.

Africa and some Asian countries had been evilly invaded by the European countries. Millions of African black slaves were tortured by these European countries. Every African people must remember this history.

Every African country is 100 times better on human right and morality than those European countries. China and India both also have assisted Africa expelling the immoral European countries to get freedom. That is big contribution to freedom of the world.

Every suffering African country should get apology and compensation (US$20-30 trillion) from these immoral European countries for children's welfare. Europe is declining however human dignity must be respected

What a load of manure. Really, do you know anything?

The first paragraph, well, true to a certain extent.
But after that you are loosing it, frankly.
20-30 trillion for every other country in Africa?! Who will pay that? All that would achieve is that the West would be broke, while Africa would not know what to do with all that money anyway.
And the human rights situation in many African places is hell. I know it is not fair given the past couple of centuries, but the West is a much better place to live than Africa is, nor are modern Westerners any more guilty of anything than modern Africans.

The colonial powers did absolutely nothing to assist the African people in developing any abilities to administer any affairs. And after they left the Europeans continued to exploit the independent states of Africa, doing nothing to assist them. In most cases, European land owners remained in control of cash-crop plantations, shipped non-food production (tea, coffee, rubber, cocoa, oils) to Europe, and sold European processed food back to the Africans.

Post-colonial Africans were encouraged to immediately assume the colonial model, getting financial aid to build airports and highways leading to the airports, and air conditioned office buildings for European-educated lawyers and accountants in European suits. Meanwhile, the Africans continued to use the absentee-owned arable land to produce cocoa at slave wages for European landlord profits, and import food at European prices. In African stores, I saw tins of pineapple marked "Product of France".

It remains to be seen if the Chinese will do anything differently, but at least they will not be bound by the tragic Christian ethic, and might have even read Rene Dumont.

But he says African nations are 100 times better on human rights then European ones. Sure throughout history European colonial powers were brutal but today, nope, I don't think so. It's unfair to compare China and Africa today to Europe and Africa many moons ago. The two situations are totally different
