Just trying to have a provocative title to get this thread going!

But, I'm thinking maybe somewhere like South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, or over by Kenya/Tanzania with Mombasa and Zanzibar? Or is that side a little more conservative?

If you were to think of your 'top 5' beachlife vibe that might have a Brazil-like atmosphere...i.e. music, dancing, socialization....what are some of the top ones you might readily think of?

Yeah can't think of any in Africa that would be comparable. Maybe some beach resorts in Morocco would be closest, but nothing as hedonistic as Spain, Greece.etc. Zanzibar in Tanzania is a popular destination for culture, but it's not really a party town. I don't know what the coastal cities of South Africa gets like. Some cities in West Africa, Luanda in Angola and Maputo in Mozambique? Still I doubt there are a lot of girls in skimpy bikinis, resort resorts with tourists or that sort of thing.

If you have to ask whether something is "world famous" then there's an excellent chance the answer is "no."

The beaches on Zanzibar are spectacular. There are lots of hotels, but it’s definitely a resort, not a city. More Maui than Miami. Africa is a very conservative place. Locals go to the beach (and even swim) fully dressed.

Speaking of South Africa, the beaches are not privatized, and considered a natural resource. Developing and commercializing them, and more than likely destroying the ecosystems, would very much go against the conservation focus of tourism there.

There are some in Egypt and Tunisia. Maputo, Mozambique, was popular with South Africans when it was Portuguese Lourenco-Marques, and RSA had apartheid.

Mozambique, at least image-wise, is maybe the only one that I immediately think of beaches, when I hear it's name. However, I also imagine very quiet isolated difficult-to-get-to beaches with that beach image.

Maybe another I might think of beaches is Ghana or Senegal....and I'd imagine European beach-goer with that.

How ironic when the popular image ot Africans, and sometimes still, is that of nude or nearly nude 'savages'.

Durban, especially its northern suburbs, has some high-end, beachy resorts.
