I avoided posting this thread for a while because it seems like such a vain thing to talk about. Maybe it's because it's almost 2:00am and all my bad ideas are started to sound great, but I've stopped caring how conceited and silly this may look.
I get asked if I'm Kenyan on a regular basis. Normally when people make assumptions about my heritage, I chalk it up to suburban ignorance, but in this case, majority of the people asking me are African (and I'd say half of them are Kenyan, themselves).
It's made me curious about my ancestry, but I haven't had much luck researching it. I know my great-grandmother on my mom's side was from the West Indies, but that's not very helpful once you realize the West Indies is a group of islands. It's like someone saying you're from Central America.
Anyway, here are a few pictures of me. And, yeah, they're pinup photos. It was a fun photo shoot.
I would ask, "what kind of Kenyan do you think I look like?" Like most places there is no single Kenyan look even for indigenous Kenyans. There are 42 different tribal groupings, three major language/ethnic divisions not including those who have European, Arab, Indian or some other ancestry.

Fair point. I know very little about Kenya, and no one I've spoken has specified what kind of Kenyan I looked like. I once had a customer suggest I search some type of tribe, but I forgot the name by the time I got home from work.
Sucks, I probably could have gotten my answer if I remembered.
To me you look just black, similar to African Americans. No I would not guess you are Kenyan. Yesterday I asked a guy if he were Nigerian and turns out I was correct.
He looked Nigerian but you don't look African anymore than African Americans.
