I have family in Morocco and I own property in Morocco ( that I never go to lol). There is no set dimensions that I am aware of. People work with the space they have. I have a preference to retangular spaces, but there is no set space demension that I am aware of. Are you trying to do tile work or some geometric pattern to enhance the space? That is a whole different situation. That is more about the mathematics of the tile/stone shapes you are using. Most of the spaces I have seen are retangular ( or at least the ones I remember because I liked them the most).

I am thinking about creating a courtyard with a central fountain and 4 surrounding flower beds like the riad. I don't want it to be too small or too big. The ones in the riads I stayed in Marrakesh seem to be just right.
