Ethiopia Airlines JUST opened their flights to ERITREA!

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-44870778

After the long-standing war/feud between the two cities, quite amazing that they resumed travel between the two. This and Eritrea becoming a World Heritage Site.

It might be an interesting time to try to visit ERITREA!

Yes, during my past transits, after the border closure, I had to pass through a third country, usually Djibouti. It was an unfortunate situation that I am glad (hope) has been put behind the countries. Ethiopia will benefit greatly from any relief of it's landlocked status.

I doubt if it will be much easier for casual travel. Vlsas remain problematic, and there have always been flights from other countries.

The only other reasonable priced flights I knew were from UAE. But the two times that I were in Ethiopia I had no desire to go through UAE to get to Asmara.

If it only weren't so difficult to get to with a visa and all. Asmara looks really interesting-- not what you would expect.

Asmara is really neat. Lots of Italian Brutalist design.

I hope this is the start of something! If Ethiopia and Eritrea get along at least as well as Indonesia does with East Timor, then that will go a long way!

Having an Eritrea thread, I thought I'd look at other statistics about the nation:
