Hi all,

I'm planning on going to Abuja in March with my husband who's white English. I'm Nigeria and grew up in Lagos.

We live in England and I don't have family in Abuja but we're going there for ivf treatment.

So this trip isn't about touring the city as much as we would like too.

If it were Lagos I know where to restrict him too but I'm not famialr with Abuja.

What areas should we stick to?

The clinic is in Garki but I suspect Garki will be too busy so Maitama and Asokoro perhaps are better?

What do you think? Where should we stay? Thanks.

As far as I know Abuja is safer than Lagos, and most of the proper city would be good. But I’m no expert, and would probably say a forum with more Nigerians living in Nigeria would suffice.

But Wuse, Maitama and Asokoro should all be fine. Abuja is probably objectively the nicest part of Nigeria so you could almost treat most of it like Lekki/Victoria and Banana Islands etc. At least the majority of the center of it. The outskirts are a bit more like the majority of Nigeria.

Since you are Nigerian, could give us a summary of the kinds of dangers one should be concerned about when arriving at any unfamiliar Nigerian city? Would you be as circumspect if you were going to Liverpool or Baltimore?
