Hi, I am possibly moving to the Akron area in June or July and I need help:
1. I have two daughters age 12 and 15; therefore, I need an area that has great schools or private schools. My youngest plays the Harp and I would like for her to continue to do so.
2. I would like to rent first to make sure Akron is the right fit for us; therefore, I am looking to rent an apartment/condo in a nice uperscale area or an urban chic area?
Any suggestions? My number one priorty though would be schools
thanks

Are you commuting anywhere? If so, where at, and how long of a commute are you willing to tolerate?

Old Trail School is a good private school for girls. Also Old Trail School, if price is no object. In the Fairlawn-West Market St.-Montrose area, you can find many rentals. The public schools in this area are good also.

I will be commuting to downtown Akron and 20 to 30 min. is what would like in a commute time frame. I keep hearing good things about the Copley area?

20-30 minutes opens up a number of options school districts/private schools that are considered very good, academically. Among them:

Private Schools: the aforementioned Old Trail, Our Lady of Elms, Walsh Jesuit, CVCA (all in Summit County)

Public Schools: Revere, Copley, Green, Tallmadge, Hudson (Summit County); Lake, Jackson, North Canton (Stark County); Wadsworth (Medina County) - all of those are very good districts within about thirty minutes of downtown.

I know nothing about the harp issue, though. Sorry.

In regards to urban "chic", the two quick things that come to mind are the Firestone cluster of schools in the Akron Public School district, which also covers the area that Old Trail and OLOE are in; the other option is Hudson, which is to the northeast of downtown Akron up Route 8. The others are pretty much all run of the mill middle-to-upper end bedroom communities.
