Hello, currently my husband and I are looking into buying an affordable house in a safe neighborhood, as we're expecting a little girl soon. We'd like advice on areas to look into. The house we're thinking about right now is at 592 Robinette Ct, Akron and we were curious if anyone knew anything on how safe the neighborhood is. My husband works in Streetsboro and need someplace close enough, but I hear Akron isn't the best place. Is this true of all of Akron? And more specifically the road/area we're thinking of. Our second option currently is on 1004 Whittier Ave. Thank you, and wish us luck.

One is North Hill area, and one is West Market Area. I honestly haven't lived in Akron for awhile, so I can't be sure which to recommend now. My son lived on Lexington in North Hill and his house was broken into numerous times. The west Akron area offers more amenities and perhaps there is more of an upscale influence.
Back in the day, North Hill was blue collar, ethnic, and many good solid families were raised there. I think you must go there and get a feel for each neighborhood yourself.

Whittier is Copley Road area, not Market. Neither of those locations are great but it all depends on what you can afford. Those areas are definitely not the worst either.

My family is also one that keeps on a strict budget and always looks for low living costs. I don't know if you have, but I would seriously search for deals in forclosed properties. If you look long enough, you will find a foreclosure that has not been seriously damaged. Our family found a nicely kept home, entirely intact and in a nice neighborhood for under $40,000 dollars. The foreclosed properties are a sad and unfortunate symptom, but they can also be a good opportunity for young family.
