very interesting, PC was always Columbus's stepchild, primarily due to the Ft. Benning soldiers coming over after WWII to do not so nice things.

PC corruption unfortunately spilled over into Columbus and the entire valley and still remains today.
I read today that the Civic Center will have to spend millions replacing the floor ice system that was supposed to last 30 years plus and did not even hold up for 6.
Even the company they used had been out of business for years as well.
I wonder why? lol
Once again Columbus goes cheap and bills the citizens for their mistakes.
Maybe one day city officials will man up and take responsibility for throwing away millions that ATLCOL brags about.

Yep! That's what the article says.

Actually that is terribly edited article from the Sunday paper by Brad Barnes who can seriously hardly tie his shoe..lol
Don't be a cheapskate....by a paper now and then!!

Statements like the following are a joke..........

"The Civic Center is a heavily used venue," said City Manager Isaiah Hugley. "It's a venue where we literally don't have any event days to spare
No event days to spare?
Even Phillips Arena has a few dates open....check their calendar!!!
Maybe Mr Hugley can sell them all the acts he cannot accomodate.

Here is another bit of bending of words...........

In fact, its stream of revenue has grown steadily -- from $1.48 million in revenue in fiscal year 1997 (its first year of operation) to $5.64 million last year. Some of that growth has come from accounting changes that includes the sports teams' finances in the budget. But the growth has been steady regardless, and projections say the Civic Center will make $6.3 million this year.

They changed acct practices and added local teams finances in the budget in order to reflect a growth.
Would they have added them if it would have shown a negative...goodness no!!
Also Mr Hester only mentions a growth in revenue but not operational costs which unfortunately are much higher.

and last but not least this comment actually is an insult to anyone with common sense.....

"It's not going to get any better -- it's going to be tough for concerts," says Dale Hester, Civic Center director. "It's the expense of traveling. Acts can't afford to go as many places as they used to."

Acts can't afford to go as many places at they used to?
No...it is more like the city cannot afford to book a big name band in town because citizens refuse to pay the going cost for top shelf entertainment.
Elton John offered to come to Columbus a couple of Xmas's ago and the city turned him down but Macon and Albany could afford him and booked his shows as well as Rod Stewart,Prince and many others

I would have to agree.
He seems to be well versed on this city and gets right to the point.
Columbus citizens need someone like that to shake things up.
Good luck to you Georgialaw.
