Hi. I am a married woman getting ready to leave my husband and was looking to move to the Dothan area. Can anyone give me any advice on how the schools, jobs, apt. rental, etc is like. I am moving from Columbus, OH. Are there places to live outside of the city?

Hi R Walters,
I hope this helps. Dothan is a steadily growing city. Whether or not you will like it here, may depend on your financial situation. There are many new businesses coming to town, but like so many that are already here, they are paying close to minimum wage. Schools for grades k-9 are absolutely wonderful here. Sadly, the two high schoolsa are having a time controlling some of the children. My youngest is in 10th grade. He was attacked at school a month ago, and no one at the school called me to let me know about it. The school officials did not notify the police officer on campus, nor did anyone get medical attention for the cuts and bruises on his face. On the other hand, we have a very good private school here. Unfortunately, I am homeless and cannot afford to send my son there. I'm just praying that there are no further instances before he graduates. The average rental on houses recently jumped to about $700. Apartments range from about $500 for 2 bedrooms. Dothan has lots of places to shop and dine: Kohl's, Ross, Wiregrass Commons Mall, Friday's, Longhorn, Red Lobster. If you want specific information, just email me. Moderator cut: email address

I think Dothan is one of the great place to move to Alabama. As far as job is concerned, you may easily find it. There are some economical rental apartments are also available which are located at walking distance from market. You can search on Streeteasycom.

I would like to say that Dothan is one of the best and affordable place to live or move to AL. There are many commercial rental apartments are also available with all amenities.
