Inquiring mind wants to know...
In my travels along the rural roads, I see what appears to be a storm shelter built into the side of the road (usually near a house). Is it because when the road was built the side of the road was high enough to build a shelter?

I just wonder why they would built one so far away from the house? Most look like they have been there a long time.

I know now a days they use either septic tank (not used I hope) or a fiberglass or plastic pod burried in the yards.

It's a combination storm shelter/schoolbus shelter. Gives the kids protection from the weather and it's a place for the family to head if a funnel cloud is spotted. The ones in good repair have a couple of benches and a wood door that can be closed. Can't remember the last time I saw one in good repair!
