My Husband and I are planning to move down there. We have a 9 year-old-son.

Little Background: My Husband and I went on vacation in April to the Leesburg/Centre/Lake Weiss Area. Fell in love with everything about it. Everyone was so friendly, not in a hurry for anything, apologized if they got in your way, etc. I loved the scenery. I didn't want to leave. I had been on many vacations to many places and never felt more "at home". Wal-Mart was a good experience for once. Also, I went to the flea market twice, in the same day, just to show my husband what it was all about. It is not like that here in Central Illinois, needless to say, I never knew how rude the people were up here! Kudos to all of you down there.

My husband has a good lead on 2 jobs. One where he would be traveling from Birmingham to Mobile to Panhandle Florida, or one that is just south of Birmingham, where he doesn't travel.

I grew up in small towns it is where I am most comfortable at. I like where my kid can ride his bike and I don't have to worry much.

So I am looking at areas.

I need a few suggestions. If he takes the first job, with the travel, we can live anywhere from Birmingham to Mobile. If he takes the second job, we have to stay within a 30-45 minute drive of Birmingham. So either way, we can't live in the area where we went on vacation. So I need some ideas on other areas that would give me the same feel.

Any thoughts on where a good place to start looking would be? Sorry this is so long, I just wanted to give you all the information.

Thanks, Jessica

I have always found the people in Leeds pretty nice. Pell City isn't bad either, and part of it is on the river. But Pell City would be on the upper end of the 35-45 minute drive in. I like Riverside too, but that would be a little over your 45 minute drive, depending on what part of B'ham you were working.

How far south of the Ham will he be working? I'm not very familiar with the areas beyond Pelham/Hoover, but I understand that to get an area like you are describing, you would have to go pretty far south.
