LOL You aren't really making a compelling argument with your lack of spelling and grammar skills. Kind of ironic.

I wouldn't call a lottery a tax on the poor, but I would call it an exploitation.

The main reason I am against a state lottery however is because they always give the lottery money to the schools. The LAST thing the public schools need is more money. Shut them down.

I'm assuming you aren't meaning to shut ALL of them down?!?

That would do A LOT more harm than good. Not everyone can afford to go to private schools. Also, not all public schools are bad.

Actually, yes I do believe in eliminating the public school system on principle. Obviously doing it in one fell swoop would be disastrous to society. But it needs to go.

I'm against a lottery because collecting all that money is just too, too tempting for Alabama politicians, their buddies and their cronies.
They can promise until September and back that it will all go for schools, but in the end, most will go into their pockets.
I have friends who live in Mississippi who testify that when gambling came in, people would go to the casino and gamble away their welfare check, and still let their kids starve and wear rags.

There's alot of that in SW Alabama too where I'm at, between the casino in Atmore and going to Biloxi. Lots of poor folks gamble away what they don't have.

As I said before, gambling is not so much a tax on the poor as it is exploitation of the poor, which in my mind is even worse.

That said, I don't believe that the state should have the authority to make gambling illegal or even to regulate it. If a private company started a lottery in Alabama, I wouldn't participate, but I wouldn't fight to shut it down either. You've gotta let people make their own decisions. But, that brings up another problem when they are gambling away their government checks. The root of the problem though again is not the gambling, it's the fact that the government takes money from working people and redistributes it to others.

See how well the lottery did in FL for their schools. When they were touting the benefits on how it would give extra money for schools. What happened once they got the money??? They took the money the schools were receiving and only used lottery money for schools which gave them no extra

If they do it they should make it just for higher education. Make it so in state students can afford to go to in state schools. They are run like a business. I dont really trust the city and county schools with gross sums if loot.

Interesting concept. I would only be in favor of something like this is ALL private schooling was regulated in it's entirety. Considering the fact that it is private, thus different companies/owners, I'm not quite sure how that would work.

Also, with private school systems, it comes at a cost and not everyone can afford those costs. That alone is why public schools are a necessity.
