, No Habla Espanol It being the first of May and not moving till around September I have a few months to "explore" online & figure out the areas/cities best for me.

I'd rather avoid big cities, smaller is nice

No High-crime area

I'm conservative in nature but not radically so

Income is Social Security so need lower cost of living

I'd rather be on the "dry side" of the weather but I'm used to high heat and high humidity

Any other considerations to be aware of?

Suggestions appreciated much!

Well a lot depends on if you want to be close to the beach or if you want to be where the weather is cooler and there are mountains.

You can find a nice place to live in one of the small towns in north AL for less than 100K. You can rent an a house or an apt for less than $750 a month, apts being much cheaper. There are several that are based on your income. There is no bad part of town where I live. There are many small cities around Huntsville, it just depends on what you are looking for in a home. This is the bible belt so there are lots of churches.

I am retired and I love living up here.

S. AL is wetter and humidity is higher but you can live close to the gulf. Fairhope is a quaint town and artsy, but there are several small towns around including Foley, summerdale, Loxley, Robertsdale and silver hill. Housing is more expensive and the traffic can be bad during the summer. So much depends on what you like to do.

Please define 'big city'. For example, Huntsville is one of the biggest cities in the state with a population of ~180,000.

While there exist pockets of high crime, most of the state is safe.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'radically' conservative, however Alabama is one of the most conservative states in the US.

Alabama is one of the 'wettest' states in the US. The top 5 states for precipitation are Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Tennnesee.

Alabama isn't as good a fit as Texas, even if you don't speak Spanish.
