I'm looking to relocate to either North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, or Georgia. I'm originally from Florida, so nothing with super harsh winters. I'm interested in off the grid(ish) / primitive(ish) living, farming, DIY, homesteading, etc. Some place that is open minded and gay friendly. Bike friendly and nature lovers. Green living and sustainability are important. Friendly cops and neighbors. Dive bars and mom and pop restaurants.
Any suggestions?
I'm looking to buy land up to 150k , at least 5 acres, with a house (can be a fixer upper). Ideally 30 Minutes from a hospital.
Thanks!

Honestly, true college town areas are probably your best bet. Chapel Hill, maybe Athens. Asheville is also another place up that alley. Although I don't know about the cost of land. Within these states, the more progressive areas tend to be more urban, or college town related, so the costs of a large plot of land might be prohibitive.
However, these kinds of things DO exist in Alabama. I might contact Heron Hollow farm, or Snow's Bend Farm for more info.

Check Guntersville area. You can get a nice house and a acreage outside of the city. I know 3 gay families where I live and we live in a small city. Check out Valleymls for Marshall county. Guntersville has a huge lake and is very pretty, only 15 minutes to a hospital and less than an hour to Birmingham and/or Huntsville both bigger cities

You need to look up the word "reactionary." With all this politicizing going on, you can be sure that gay and out in the rural South is not going to be a picnic in the very near future. I'd rethink that plan. Lots of irritated bible thumpers in them thar parts.

Reluctantly had to get rid of my place in Tennesee. Not even gay or out - just single.

I know right! I use to live there but it was just so far from my family ( they are all in Florida).
Thanks!

While I am sure that is true in many places, a lot of people in NE AL are more accepting especially those that have moved here to work in the federal gov't. There are bible thumpers that is true but most invite you to their church and if you just say 'Thank you' they let it go.

I am single and I have had no problems at all living here. There aren't any 'gay' bars in the small towns and I am not sure if there are any in the larger cities but there are gays who live here.
