As having a family member who was admitted into the UAB Psych Ward twice, your statements do not hold a drop of water.
A, You 1st have to go through the emergency room, normally 6-10 hour wait.
B, Once you are giving a room, they will determine, based upon YOUR statements if you are a threat to yourself or others, if not you are cut loose.
C, IF you freely admit you wish to harm yourself or others, you will be held until a bed becomes available. This can take several days as not only is there a shortage of space but funds.
D, Once you actually get admitted to a room, then within another day or two finally you will see a doctor. They will prescribe medication.
E, By then you will have figured out, unless you want to stay for a while, you will decide that you really don't want to harm anyone including yourself.
F, Then you are cut loose.
G, If you make a return trip for violence against yourself or others, possibly you will go before a probate judge who will make a decision on your fate.
H, By the way, no cell phones or internet access allowed.
Job security is not an issue, they have a waiting list a mile long limited by lack of funding.
