How did you choose Alabama over other locations in like minded parts of the United States? I'm just wondering how someone with no apparent ties chooses Alabama. Huntsville is a nice place with many pros, but I don't think I would choose it if I was moving to the U.S. from another country and could essentially move almost anywhere. In the region, I would probably look into Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Greenville, SC as other possibilities with proximity to the Southeastern mountains. Maybe even the northern Atlanta suburbs if you're fine with suburbia.

I do not recommend flying the Confederate flag. You have no ties to the South, and displaying it will have you labeled immediately as a White Supremacist. Many decades ago, the flag was co-opted as a symbol by racists who wanted to maintain the apartheid-style system of segregating Whites and Blacks.

If there are 20-40 teenagers gathered in Huntsville, it's a drum circle or a sporting event. There are gangs, but mostly involved in drugs. If the teens are drinking beer, they'll be arrested - the drinking age is 21. There are designated entertainment zones where public consumption of alcohol is permitted, else you're getting arrested.

Do you know why Baptists don't make love standing up? People might think they're dancing.

There are plenty of different churches. You should be able to find one to suit you.

Why not? Alabama has some great areas.

Jews don't recognize Jesus.

Protestants don't recognize the Pope.

Baptists don't recognize each other at the liquor store.

My neighbor is Church of Christ, which I suppose on could describe as conservative Baptist. Twice, I've run into him in Mississippi casinos, once in Philadelphia and once and Tunica. And we had no idea each other was going there.

A C of C (or Baptist for that matter) in a casino is pretty much like seeing one in the liquor store.

To get back on topic ... to the OP ... you'd be a lot better off not displaying the confederate flag on your vehicle or anywhere else. It's frowned upon by most. Do some do it? Sure, but it's rare they usually have a rifle rack in the back of their pickup to go along with it. And they're the "in your face" type folks that you might not want to associate with anyway. Having pride in the South and Southern heritage does not mean that a person is racist, and there's no need to make folks think it's that way.

I don't know much about the evangelists. You're on your own there. I tend to think of them as profit making snake oil salesmen, but each to their own. I know some guy made a full scale replica of what he thinks Noah's ark was like somewhere in Kentucky, and he sells tickets to see it. Beyond that I know nothing.

Gangs in Huntsville? Yeah, probably but I'm never around them. Use prudence and stay away from places where they gather and you'll be ok. And double the caution at night. Let the police handle such things.

Thanks guys for that info.

Yeah, thanks for the history of the conf flag, i defiantly dont want to come across as a white supremacy by any means. It doesnt mean nothing to me, just wanted to know how it was portrait.

:BamaDave: where would you suggest i live? like, if you could go live in any state, where would you want to live?

I like AL because of so many things, great people, great hospitality, great place and nice weather.
Love the accent and all the awsome places, nice, population density, crime rate of huntsville.
Its just in my opinon such an amazing place to live. There is so much i like about it compared to other places, especially the space center and things to do. Little tax and good value houses and good standard of living.

Have any of you been to UK? Ull know then why i want to leave haha.

Yeah, the Kent Hovind thing, your right about the profits. He was put in jail for 10 years for tax offenses but now out.
He used to live in Florida but now moved to AL.

The guy with the arc is decent ine of them, hes very much different i think
Answersingenises.com is there site.

Thanks for the info about the gangs, if i stick to the main built up areas at night, only if im eating out should be fine i think.

Every Thursday late afternoon/early evening at the US Space and Rocket Center there's a function called Biergarten. You get a German buffet, all sorts of German food and beer, and generally a good time. There's no cost of admission and the dinner I believe is $10, maybe $15 with drink and dessert. And ... you sit at tables in the Davidson Center under a real Saturn V launch vehicle (laying on its side, of course). And all around the perimeter are all sorts of space memorabilia and displays. People from all over the world are there ... we went this past Thursday and met teachers from Mexico, the Czech Republic who were here for a week at Space Camp. I highly recommend going.

Also, there's the museum, much of which you can walk around outside for free before or after your dinner. And of course, you can go into the museum for a fee. The place is huge.
