I like Huntsville a lot in the spring and fall, but the summers are hot, hazy, and humid to a point where it's not a place I would settle, and your elderly parents might find it a bit much.
The average high in north Alabama is near 90 (32 C) in July, and the average low is 68 or so (20 C). So not so bad ... but the humidity can make it feel worse. Some days are hotter, some are cooler, however 6 months of the year are quite pleasant.

The recommended city of Windsor is certainly cooler in the summer, but downright cold in the winter and snowy.

Right, I've lived in Memphis, New Orleans, North Louisiana, Atlanta, Durham, and Birmingham. There's a notable difference in the summers in the more inland and elevated parts of the Southeast than closer to the coast. The summers here are not quite as unbearable as those in Memphis, where average summer temps are a little higher. It's all about your own preferences and tolerances. I'll take 3-4 months of 90-ish and humidity over an endless chilly winter.

Hi guys, thankyou.

Ive been doing some research and ive found a letter written by my grandmother, stamped by the consulate of the USA asking permission to visit her sister and brother in law who is very ill and who lives in 70360, Louisiana, so i do have a bloodline there.
Obviously they are dead now, but the bloodline isnt, however theres no chance of any sponsorship id imagine.
However, since i have blood ties, would this support a visa to be able to live in the US?

Letter was written in 1967

Thanks

edit: just been on google earth and looks as it knocked down.

I honestly have no idea if that would help or not.

I've always assumed that a person from England could come here almost at will, since we're the Colonies.

yea thats exactly what i thought too, but i heard its harder than i thought.

Hey just curious if i can ask you some questions.

I know its spiders again lol just a quick question.

how common are fishing spiders in Huntsville? they freak me out abit.
Im going to be ok with black windows and brown recluse as they are rare indoor if kept clean.
Also what is the general take on house spiders? do yo guys see many?
are there "many" large spiders ( cant believe im typing this ) !!

snakes:

What are the chances of seeing rattlesnakes ect or cottonmouths near your home, and are bites rare?

Mosq:
are there many flying about? is it a big problem, do the bites hurt?

Thanks

Obtaining citizenship in the U.S. is NOT easy for any foreigner. Ellis Island is closed. A little while back there was a kerfuffle on the supposed ease that terrorists might gain entry, so I looked at the actual documentation on the requirements. If someone lived in an Eastern bloc country, an almost automatic exclusion is that membership - at any time - in the communist party disqualifies (whether or not such membership was the only way you might survive). The person has to have a near spotless record and show indication of being an asset to the U.S.. There are limitations on the number of allowed immigrants from each country, and most people never make the cut.

I'm aware of a couple who have a home in Huntsville and another in France. One of them is a French citizen, so that one gets a 90 day visa to visit, then returns to France and both live in France for another 90 days while the American uses a visa, and then the process repeats.

The rhetoric about the U.S. needing to tighten admission standards is just rhetoric. From what I have read, the selection process overall is both highly restrictive and competent. I would guess the OP has maybe a 10% chance of gaining citizenship, unless there is some talent or information being withheld.

Spiders:

https://www.al.com/outdoors/index.ss...f_alabama.html

I've never seen a "fishing spider". I don't even think about spiders usually (yes, I'm terrible for not caring much about our 8-legged friends), unless I'm poking around in an unused, dark, dusty place. The largest spider I've seen in Alabama is a garden spider (see link).

Snakes:

https://www.al.com/outdoors/index.ss...you_shoul.html

The chances of seeing snakes near your home depend on where you live; the probability of seeing a venomous snake is fairly low. For example, if you live in a "remote" area, your chances will increase dramatically. I haven't seen a snake near my home in years. However I can find snakes within a mile of my house if I look for them (the good part of my fear of snakes is that I'm hyper-vigilant). Snake bites are rare, however they do happen. For example, a man was bitten (and hospitalized) by a venomous coral snake recently, but he was playing with the snake, which he had misidentified. So don't be stupid... On the other hand, our former city attorney (now running for Congress), was bitten by a venomous copperhead snake in his garage. He lost most of a finger. Aside - I'm not voting for the snake-bit Democrat but the reliably conservative Republican who I've known for years (nothing against the Democrat - he's a nice fellow).

Mosquitoes:

https://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/20...0_species.html

The bites are annoying and hurt a little, but not as painful as biting flies (such as the horse fly). Mosquitoes are common and most cities use insecticide-spraying trucks at night to address the problem. There are some techniques you can use to minimize the problem (no standing water, wear long sleeves and light colored clothing). Supposedly, eating hot peppers (capsaicin) will make them avoid you, while eating lactic acid (milk, bananas) will attract them.

I rented a furnished apartment in Alabama in February to find out if I would like to move here. I decided to rent for a year to make sure I would like it.

It is a friendly place and I do not find the climate burdensome. I am in Florence. It is not as large as Huntsville, but shares the same climate. I strongly suggest you visit, then rent for a while to make sure this is what you will like. Moving is a pain; so make sure before you pack up!
