Hi there,

I am planning to move to Texas, Alabama or Georgia in the next couple years. I am a dog trainer and horse enthusiast and I have no idea where to start on my search. I need to be within 30-40 minutes of a major city for clientele and the area must be zoned for dogs and a few horses. What areas do all suggest? I am trying to stay 1-2 hours from the coast also. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What do you consider a “major city”?

The OP didn't actually mention an airport, but maybe that goes hand in hand with a "major city". But being within 30-40 minutes of a major city, but still 1-2 hours of the coast is a tough combination. Is Mobile "major" enough? But they don't have much of an airport, and the nearest major one is in New Orleans. Atlanta is farther away than 2 hours to the coast, I think. Maybe the Houston area, or some of the towns between Houston and New Orleans?

I think it's going to be virtually impossible to satisfy all the criteria, short of spending megabucks.

I would think Huntsville, Alabama where there’s the space center which drives a nice small city atmosphere, but plenty of open space which is why the shuttle launching spot is strategic. Hence next to Madison
County is Limestone County, a nice rural atmosphere in Northern Alabama away from the Gulf.

Hunting/horseback/open country/lots of outdoor use of domestic pets

Horseback ranches almost always require trained dogs and this would be a good spot.

In March you have a Home and Garden Festival which could be a good network op for dog-training

Now for urban employment you have Huntsville metro
Area. Politically, Limestone County is a mostly Conservative area if you want less conservative you might like Madison more.

There is not a "shuttle launching spot" in Huntsville; however, there is a space shuttle on display at the space museum.

If Space Shuttles were launched out of Huntsville, we'd be dropping SRBs on Atlanta ....
