Me and my family are moving to Baldwin County next summer. We are looking at: Daphne, Spanish Fort, and Foley. We have a 6 year old little boy that loves sports and we want to be in a good school district. We are moving from up north and want to make sure we get as much information as possible before making the move. Jobs and schools are number one concerns on our list! I work for a utility company, and my husband works in a factory where they make car parts where he has 5 years experience in material handling. I want to pursue real estate, and want to be in a good area career wise and education wise for our son. All advice is appreciated! Thank you.

Daphne-Spanish Fort. Would be a better fit for you than Foley. You will be closer to Mobile regarding jobs. Foley- Orange Beach - Gulf Shores mainly has service jobs. The schools in the Easternshore ( Spanish Fort/Daphne/Fairhope) are also better. As for your husband there are a lot of good paying manufacturing /material handling jobs available in Mobile.

Thank you! I have heard really good things about Spanish fort schools, would you say Daphne is comparable? We are coming down for a week in March and I would like to start applying, or submitting our resumes for jobs just don’t know if that would be too early.

Probably, the city limits of both towns sort of run together. Daphne is more ‘established’, while most housing in Spanish Fort is newer since development is being forced out that way.

Touristy with a lot of retirees. Most of the jobs are service type jobs unless you do construction or work in healthcare.

It's got some retail stores ... and is about a 25-minute drive to the beach.

Spanish Fort and/or Daphne will be better for a kid who is into organized sports.
