I am looking for some information because I am moving to the Mobile area from Boston in the spring. My boyfriend is in the Army and is getting transferred down there.

I, being the quintessential liberal Yankee, am honestly not thrilled with the idea of moving to the deep south, but I will make the best of it. Anyway, we were looking to move east of Mobile, since it seems like a nicer area. I was especially interested in finding out about the towns of Daphne, Loxley, Spanish Fort, and Robertsdale (and the surrounding areas). We do not want to be more than 45 minutes away from the city. I was pleasantly surprised at the real estate prices, since housing in Boston is outrageously expensive. What are property taxes like in that area? Do most people commute into Mobile for work?

Complicating matters is the fact that I am bringing my horse down with me, since we'll be there for 3-5 years. Are there any good boarding stables in the areas above? I am looking specifically for an eventing or dressage barn but good care is the most important. I would be willing to drive at most 30 minutes from the above areas.

Thanks very much!
Jen

Bring anything down here but your politics and dont complain about stuff when you are in Alabama. Some people like it that its the only place in the country where people are patriotic and think sensibly. You will have fun. Great place for horses too. Sorry I Cant help you too much on the moving advice

Takeflight- Mobile is definently no Boston but hey- I guess you will make the best of it? Go Red Sox?

Robertsdale and Loxley are COMPLETLEY different from Daphne and Spanish Fort. R & L are total country/redneck. D & SF are pretty nice! Much more cosmopolitan and more ammenties. Nicer restaurants, brand new malls, ect. There you might forget for a minute you are in AL.

Good Luck!
