We have been researching places to retire and Hanceville popped up on our radar. We are aware of the Catholic church and community there. How about medical facilities? Any information would be greatly appreciated. We are hoping to check it out next year.

I'm originally from just outside of Hanceville and my parents still live there so I visit often. There really isn't too much to Hanceville itself. The main thing is Wallace State Community College which has around 7,000 students. Hanceville has a grocery store and a handful of restaurants, mostly fast food. It's also convenient for trips to Birmingham which is only around 45 minutes away.

Cullman is the largest city in the county and has been seeing a lot of commercial growth in the last several years. The main (only?) hospital CRMC (Cullman Regional Medical Center) is located there. From what I know it's an ok hospital, but I don't really have personal experience with them. A lot of people will complain about Cullman, but I think it is a great town and I only moved away for my job.

Smith lake is also nearby if you enjoy boating, fishing, etc.

To me, Cullman is a much nicer place to live than Hanceville. Though if you're looking for more rural/quiet areas then Hanceville would probably be a better choice.
