With troubling data on waning vaccine efficacy coming out of Israel, I’m wondering how the elderly who were vaccinated the earliest are faring in our nursing homes. I have not seen any reports of outbreaks in these populations from Delta variant.

Only half of nursing home workers are vaccinated. Around 80% of residents are vaccinated.

It would be very encouraging if this population is being “put to the test” and faring well during this surge.

Current Covid-19 tests cannot test specifically for the Delta Variant.

And yet, we know it is "surging".

It's getting bad around here, I know several people sick with it, one in the hospital. Church groups seem to be spreading it too.

I got my shot back in February, so hopefully I have some resistance.

I'm baffled why nursing home workers aren't all vaccinated considering the fragile population they work with.

I'm going to guess because of the low rate of pay, the nursing home is afraid to put this requirement in as they could not replace the employees that refused.

I know quite a few nursing home workers personally who refuse to take the vaccine and they're still going to work every day.

a quick google search will pull up plenty of sources that cite data from Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services.

There is such a shortage of workers, the nursing homes cannot risk anyone quitting over a mandate.

I'm looking for info on nursing homes specifically because that population is at highest risk AND the first to be vaccinated. If they are faring well, then we can be confident that the vaccines are not losing efficacy as has been suggested by some.

I searched online last night and did find some small outbreaks of Delta (as determined by sequencing). It seems that the nursing home residents that caught it either had mild illness or died. I couldn't find any reports of hospitalizations. Those that died were already on hospice or had severe underlying condition, medically fragile. That is encouraging to me.

Again, I'm asking specifically about nursing homes--or assisted living facilities. 7 month vaccine efficacy is what I'm after.

Can you ask them if they have seen any COVID cases among the residents?
