This thread isn't for just any project that was announced and never built. It's for those that stand out... either due to size, cost, or sheer outlandishness (is that a word?).

These are the ones the first come to mind. What else would you add?

DreamVision Soundscape - Muscle Shoals

DreamVision reveals plan for Shoals theme park

This one was just so... vague. I don't think they ever even announced where the site was intended to be. To nobody's surprise, I think the planners ended up in some legal trouble shortly afterwards.

The Oasis - Huntsville

'The Oasis,' a dazzling new entertainment center, touted for Huntsville

This one actually still has a Facebook page... so maybe not completely dead? It was announced in 2016, though, and I believe the proposed site already has other developments on it.

Shepherd Centre - Birmingham

Shepherd Centre

No article on this one, as it was proposed way back in 1987. The proposal was for a 44-story and a 72-story tower! It's the site where Station 121 apartments currently sit.

I live where those houses are. There are still a few concrete foundations (of sorts) around, so it was a real thing that sort of got started. Never made it though. I believe there was supposed to be an Arnold Palmer golf course as well.

^nice. the article mentions a "mysterious, curvy sidewalk to nowhere"... any idea if that's still there?

The Oasis is probably the most elaborate project announced for this area that was never built. I seriously doubt it's still a thing, but Crunkleton is a reputable builder in Huntsville. Pretty sure they're building the project (The Range?) just west of Stovehouse on Governor's Drive, and it's well underway. They've built many other buildings around the area as well, but nothing as far out as The Oasis.

I think it is. I believe it's just below the Edgewater Clubhouse.

North Alabama Zoo

JUST KiDDIng! I actually think this project will come to fruition. It appears to be a quality project with the beginnings of a strong foundation and demand. Visionaries and big projects usually are not comprehensible for most people. Nearly every project of any size is met with naysayers, do nothings and constant never happy complainers.
Meanwhile the visionaries make things happen.

Would not be surprised to see this one eventually end up on the list:

New $250m skyscraper, The Block, proposed for 2nd Ave N Birmingham

Another massive project just completely devoid of actual details.
