Yes, the plates still have the county number (47 in Madison County) but it was the remaining 5 characters that seem to have no rhyme or reason. In some cases, there are no numbers at all - just letters.

I also saw some new Tennessee plates a few days ago. Not sure if was the standard issue plate or some specialty versions, but all the ones I saw were fairly dark blue with white numbers/letters. They look pretty good. https://www.google.com/search?q=tenn...hgUCHOV22ie6SM According to the article, there are some problems with them being read by law enforcement cameras. Probably a plus for some folks.

Good guess, but it was Huntsville Police with a speed trap going over Chapman Mountain where the speed liimit drops to 50. I'd just passed a house trailer being pulled that was wobbling all over the road and hadn't slowed down enough. Totally my fault.

That is one of HPD's favorite spots. The interstate turns into highway and then the speed limit drops even more because of Chapman Mountain and the red lights on the other side. A lot of speeding tickets are handed out there.
