I've been wondering when Alabama would replace the yellow/green/blue license plates. I think they've already done so.

Pretty sure I saw a couple of new ones today on the way home. They've got a white background with blue letters, and from a distance resemble the Bicential plates a bit. They have 4 numbers - two letters - one number (1111AA1).

There appears to be no county designator, unless it's coded into the two letters some how (both the ones I saw were BD), and I don't think there is a county sticker on the bottom.

If they do it hasn't been loaded on the personalized reservation site yet. There is a gangload of alternates though. Maybe you just saw one of the several dozens available.

No, I don't think it was a personalized plate. It's hard to imagine somebody paying an extra $50 for a plain Jane plate like that. I actually saw two of them, and both were as I described. It's possible they may have sneaked the new plates in on us, or maybe they ran out of the second sequence they've been using in Madison County and had to go to a third here. I suppose we'll find out before long.

The ones I saw today actually at first glance looked like an old, out of date plate with new stickers on them.

Just scrolled through the available personalized plates in your link, and some of them are pretty obscure. I'd say I've never seen the majority of them. One that was notably absent was the University of Tennessee. I remember they used to be covered (in sports) by the Times about as much as Alabama and Auburn were covered, so you'd think they'd have an available license plate.

That link shows all the available backgrounds whether personalized or not. In other words, you get to choose the available tag along with the message. Some have more characters than others.

EDIT: Nevermind, just realized the alternative "God Bless" plate isn't on there. I guess you can't have that one with a personalized message. Maybe that's what you saw. Those are pretty common and have been around for a long time though.

Found out I was wrong about the new license plates. Was stopped at a light today and there was a car with one in the adjacent lane, slightly in front of me, so I got a good look. It's actually the "God Bless America" tag. The US flag in the background is so dim you can only tell what it is from a fairly close view.

Sorry for confusion. Was hoping we were getting rid of the green/yellow/blue standard plate but don't want one that plain. Maybe a new one will occur in January. It'll have been 7 years then since we got new plates.

The God Bless America plate is available personalized. It is on page 6 of the link that shows all of the plates.

Ah, cool. I knew I had seen a personalized one somewhere. Just wasn't sure. I would have thought it would have shown up with the standard plate under that filter since they tend to bill it as an alternate standard as opposed to a speciality style. Oh well.

If they come up with something new, they should copy the design of the older Georgia or Florida plates. Both of their current designs look bad now, so it would be fine to roll out a classic design based on something they bailed on. You can't beat a masterpiece of a tag like this...

The very best looking tag I've ever had was my first Retired Navy plate. It was blue and white, with the Navy seal. Looked very sophisticated. Other services were similar but different colors. Now, all the services look alike and you have to look close to tell the difference.

Hopefully, ole Johnny Law will vets and retired members a break when they see the plates. I haven’t tested that theory yet.
