Erase the whole damn thing. Our Constitution is so outdated, so poorly written that a circus chimp can do a better job.

What can you expect from Alabama, who has a governor with his head so far up his --- when it comes to casinos and such.

I'm sorry but I don't see the connection between casinos and the constitution.

Is there a positive way to protest our Constitution in the upcoming election?

Why do next generations always think they can write a better constitution than their forefathers?

You obviously haven't seen the Alabama Constitution. When you actually live in Alabama, you can hold forth on this issue.

Actually, Riley went out on a political limb early in his first term to get a new constitution. The problem was that the referendum was rejected in a general election, due to the fact that it was coupled with a highly controversial tax overhaul.

And since Riley is actually enforcing the state law concerning casinos, rather than kowtow to a bunch of corrupt gambling bosses with ties to organized crime, I'm not sure what your issue is. If you want gambling, then lobby to have it legalized. But until then, he is required by his oath of office to enforce the statutes.

Do look into this. I think you'll be surprised at how poorly this constitution serves the citizens of this state. Our forefathers thought power needed to be concentrated in Montgomery. Power needs to reside with the people.

As a relative newcomer to this state (lived here a bit over 4 years), at first I thought it was kind of neat that we got to vote on practically everything (including the most mundane local issues having nothing to do with where I live or with the state in general).

But then I began to realize that this so called "power of the people" couldn't do a damn thing to take care of the rampant political corruption and cronyism in this state. It seems it's taking the feds moving in with special investigators, prosecutors, etc. to clean up this place. So at the risk of alienating all those who hate the federal government, I say more power to them (without them LaLaLarry would still be polluting and bankrupting the city government of Birmingham - god knows he did enough damage to Jefferson County).

The state constitution is a horror and BADLY needs to be rewritten. But I am pessimistic that it will happen in my lifetime. The vested interests have too much at stake, and will not permit it to happen. Too bad, because Alabama is really a great state, and IMHO could be one of the great renaissance states of this union.

Agree. Now--how to motivate people to do what we need to do: rewrite the Constitution and make it a model for all the states?
