My husband and I are looking at Tuscaloosa to relocate our family. He is employed within the medical community which would predicate our decision....my question is, (asked with all the respect and admiration for Alabama and it's residents) how is the social climate in respect to race? We are a multi racial family and we have small children. I would like to feel a measure of comfort that they (as well as us) would be welcomed and not ostracized...we live in the South currently and have never had any issues, but would love to hear opinions on those in the know about Tuscaloosa specifically, but Alabama in general.

Thank you!

With the university drawing a bit more educated population base, and the variety of people in Tuscaloosa, I truly doubt your family would rate a second look from anybody.

Welcome!!

If you live in the South and haven't had any issues, then Alabama and Tuscaloosa won't be any different, particularly given how Tuscaloosa is a university town. Good luck.

My family is multiracial, too, but this is actually part of the reason why my wife specifically wanted to move back to the south in general and T-town in particular. Since we are just on the cusp of moving there I can't say with certainty what it will be like, but I am willing to bet everything in this regard is a-ok, at least as much as it would be anywhere in these United States.
