I plan on taking more than a few road trips out of Anchorage between now and the end of October. Anybody have any suggestions concerning awesome places to eat out there? I recently ate at the Summit lake Lodge down in the Kenai. I had a great meal there.

If you can see the glacier, you have to stop at Long Rifle Lodge at mile 102 Glenn Hwy. Decent food and fantastic view.

Gwen's in Cooper Landing for the world's best smoked salmon chowder (if they have fixed their water problem ahem).

Mary's McKinley View Cafe in Trapper Creek for homemade pie when the mountain is out.

McClaran Lodge on the Denali Hwy (unfortunately Gracious House with its incredible pie is closed)

The Bake Shop in Girdwood to sit outside surrounded by the biggest begonias.

Talkeetna Roadhouse is a must for breakfast.

Creekside Cafe in Carlo Creek just south of Denali National Park has great battered halibut.

OK I must say that if you had a GREAT meal at Summit Lake then you are going to find tons of places you LOVE........ not saying it is bad food, but have eaten there several times and I won't put it up as great....

You want something nicer? Double Musky - Girdwood
Sports bar - Bucket Burgers Soldotna. Then there is St. Elias Brewing company that tries to be a Mooses Tooth. They don't make it, but their food and beer is still good

Second vote for the Fat Olive's in Homer

Been wanting to try Big Daddy's BQ for awhile now

Tazlina Lodge on the Glenn has good food.

Caribou Inn at Glennallen has great food, too.

South of Copper Center is a little restaurant on the right side of the highway that makes great pizzas.

At the Tok Cutoff to the left is a good restaurant, too. This is before you hit Gulkana.

Yeah, I still remember their blueberry pancakes. Good call!

AND, there was this little diner in Seward close, within sight, of the water, wonderful shrimp omelet.
