I'm a bit confused. Why would you need to be emancipated at the age of 18? Isn't that the age at which someone is legally declared an adult anyway? Is there something different about Alaska?

Your 18, you can just declare yourself emancipated I think, It involves at most I think them taking you off their insurance plan. Then just move there, find a job and take off from there.

No need to get emancipated. At 18 you're legally considered an adult.

Just fire them. My kids pissed me off real bad one day, so I fired them. It shook them up for days...

Not sure about Florida...but in Alaska at 18 your pretty much considered an adult (except for drinking and smoking). I think you can join the military or even get married without parents consent. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Once 18 your an adult, but if your asking about it I'm not quite sure in this case. Moving to Alaska is a huge leap and if you don't have a job or a place to live it can get very cold, lonely and deadly to say the least.

Perhaps you should stick closer to your parents until you get some street smarts and some work experience to back up your resume before

I agree w/the others. If U have to ask, U are not quite ready to cut the apron strings even at 18. But if U are a young lady, there are a lot of pitfalls alone w/o a job and worse if U have very little bread. It is a cruel world out there. Ask your self these questions: Can I tell my parents I have enough saved up where I do not need any assist from home, including coming home to live, for several months and, perhaps, up to a year? Have I work outside of home and found myself capable and do get along w/fellow workers? Am I willing to take any honest menial job to survive? Do I have skills to do more than menial work? Can I find a place to live, away from home, w/o compromising myself?
These are but just a few simple questions. You must assume worse case conditions. So figure up your budget for several month including food, rent, transportation, clothing and personal hygeine stuff and assume U are unable to find work or found only a low paying job. I wish U the best. Just remember, if your parents will support your further education, generally, it is a lot better than paying for it yourself. And more schooling normally will get a better higher paying position. Of course, there are a always exceptions. Just assume U are not one of these. Not cut out for school? Then try a local job. If U feel comfortable, then consider cutting the tie.
